Brookfield established a presence in South Korea with the opening of its Seoul office in 2014. In 2016 Brookfield acquired the International Finance Centre (IFC) Property Portfolio in Seoul. IFC is a mixed-use precinct developed in 2012 comprising three office towers, tenanted by leading multi-national corporations and global retailers and a retail mall. The properties are directly connected to the Yeouido subway station through an underground pedestrian walkway.
Brookfield continued to grow its real estate business in South Korea with the acquisition of Cheongna Logistics Center in 2023, one of the largest logistics centres in Korea, featuring best-in-class last mile delivery due to its favourable location in the logistics cluster west of the Seoul Metropolitan Area.
Brookfield also continues to expand its infrastructure investments in Korea. Brookfield’s portfolio company DCI Data Centers, an experienced data centre owner and operator covering the Asia Pacific region, is currently constructing a world-class data centre in Seoul under a strategic joint venture with DL group, a leading construction company in Korea.
In 2022, Brookfield acquired an air separation infrastructure, a state-of-the-art facility supplying industrial gas that is a critical utility for the main semiconductor fabrication facility of SK Hynix, the second-largest memory semiconductor producer in the world. Brookfield’s infrastructure assets in Korea are expected to serve a critical role in the global data and semiconductor industry backed by sustained market tailwind.
Since Brookfield established its presence in South Korea, over US$14bn of capital has been invested from more than 60 Korean institutional investors alongside Brookfield in various investment strategies around the world. As Brookfield’s presence continues to grow across Asia, we expect to continue our prudent investment activity in South Korea.
